The Challenge

For the past 25 years, the Esso Medals & Certificates of Achievement Program has become an integral part of the fabric of Canadian community hockey by recognizing and rewarding the dedication, effort and fair play of young hockey players from coast to coast. After a quarter-century, however, the program needed a boost. Both the application process and program coordination needed an overhaul. Perhaps most importantly the brand experience needed revitalizing.

The Solution

Revitalizing Esso's 70-year commitment to hockey

Media Dog worked alongside partners TrojanOne to create an immersive user experience through design that both inspires and informs. The site is enhanced with interactive features such as a custom hockey card creator and an interactive timeline. While the custom card creator enables users to upload their photos to send to their friends and family, the interactive timeline educates viewers about Esso's contribution to the game, and highlights milestones in Esso's sponsorship of hockey.

Streamlining the registration process

A key goal in the site's development was to make the program more accessible and responsive to those interested in signing up, while making it easier for Hockey Canada staff to administer and coordinate the incoming registrations. To accomplish these goals, Media Dog developed a bilingual online registration form and implemented an order tracking system built on the extremely robust ColdFusion platform. Once a user registers their team through a simple online form, the registration information is sent to the program coordinator for approval and onto the fulfillment company for processing. A simple-to-use web-based application interface makes for a seamless process that is benefiting people across the country.

The Results

The new web site provides a much more intuitive and seamless process for all visitors while demonstrating Esso's long association with hockey and their commitment to Canada's youth hockey in a fun and engaging manner.
